Christmas in the City

The Events Team at the City of Bunbury had to change things a little this year, to meet all the Health Department guidelines around Covid-19 Event Regulations. They split the event into two components to reduce the crowd, with the street parade on one weekend and the Carols on the next. They also spread activities throughout the city to avoid the crowd being drawn to one location.

The Totally Sound crew worked on both the RAC Street Parade and the The Apprentice and Traineeship Company Carols. We also spent time in the lead up to the event working on a basic theme/backdrop. We built a huge metal 3D star and carefully covered it in a gold fabric with plenty of sparkle. We made gold banners, organised gorgeous read drapes and made gold tie backs and enormous presents. The Carols this year included two iconic children’s Christmas movies that could be viewed on the stage screen and a trailer screen on the grassed area in front of the bus station. The crowd seemed to really enjoy this new initiative.

The carols were the usual joyous experience, with plenty of festive colour and a great showcase of local talent. It’s always wonderful to see the crowd singing and moving along to the familiar Christmas tunes.

Fringe Bunbury 2020

A celebration of all things left of centre, edgy and totally different, Fringe has quickly found it's way onto people's 'must' list in Bunbury

There was an incredible range of opportunities on offer at the Fringe Festival in Bunbury this year. Jo O’Dea (Art Events Management) and her team did an amazing job of bringing all things provocative and quirky to our town.

The Fringe Hub was at the Power Boat Club, with the Inlet and the City as a backdrop. Great place to gather for a local wine or craft beer from the bar and entertainment as the sun set each evening during Fringe Week. Some even came across the water by boat arranged especially to add to the Fringe experience.

There really was something for everyone, with stand up, music, improv, wine yoga, poetry and storytelling, music and comic theatre. There were hints of Fringe throughout the town, little installations to remind us all. There were a lot of satellite events too, held at places like Mojo’s and BREC, even Fringe Noir Cinema on a rooftop in the CBD.

We pretty much did not see Walter and a couple of our other lads for the week. They were meshed deep in Fringe world and were quite frankly loving it. It pays to be flexible and quick thinking in this world, where things change quickly and the unexpected is to be expected.

So good to see how this event has grown in such a short time. It is a credit to the organisers, supporters and a great thing for Bunbury.

Blues At Bridgetown 8th – 10th Nov 2019

Another awesome weekend in sunny Bridgetown for the 26th annual Blues at Bridgertown

There were around 120 musicians entertaining festival goers over the weekend. They may have been working, but also seemed to be having a good time! Among the line up were Hussy Hicks, Toby Beard, Diesel, Bondi Cigars, Ash Grunwald, 19-Twenty, Russel Morris and the USA Original Chicargo Blues All Stars.

There was something for everyone. Plenty of good music, dancing and on Saturday, market stalls all the way up the main street. Bridgetown has some great little cafes and hotels, which combined with the visiting food trucks meant there was plenty of good food and beverages on offer.

Totally Sound had a crew of 14 on the weekend, taking care of Blue Owl stage, Geegelup, the Festival Club, the WAM Stage and Street Stage, Scott’s Tavern and the Bridgetown Hotel. It’s certainly one of our bigger weekends and we just love working with the Blues at Bridgetown Committee and volunteers who work so hard each year to make it all possible.

Dairy Innovation Day 2019

It is a dairy, but not as you know it! The new robotic dairy at Bannister Downs Dairy and Creamery hosted this years Dairy Innovation Day. The crew headed out to Northcliffe to work alongside Dean and the team from Lomax Media and Jess Andony and Esther Price from Western Dairy. The event showcases some of the latest innovations in the dairy business and provides an opportunity for networking.

No, it was not all drinking wine and frivolities! But it was nice to work with old friends.

There were a few challenges, not least of which was building AV in the middle of a working robotic rotary dairy. The conference included live crosses from various locations on the property, including drone feeds from Lomax Media. The event culminated in a Gala Dinner at the Pemberton Sports Club.

Groovin’ The Moo

GTM Bunbury 2019 was awesome. A packed venue, great artists and an awesome vibe. Wrapped to hear it is coming back to Bunbury for the next 5 years.

The Totally Sound crew were responsible for sound, lighting and staging at the Mootown Stage. The team love being involved. It is an opportunity to see some great artists and to catch up with production friends from Perth working the big stages.

Nannup Music Festival 2019

March 1 – 4 2019

It was the 30th Anniversary of the Nannup Music Festival this year and a sold out crowd gathered to celebrate. There was so much for people to see and do and Nannup was buzzing all weekend.

There are six main stages at the festival. The Amphitheatre which is the big main space, Tigerville, The Playground, The Town Hall, The Nannup Hotel and the lovely new space ‘The Secret Garden’. There are also workshop spaces, and beautiful quiet and restorative places in The Arboretum.

Such an interesting and varied lineup of musicians for festival goers to enjoy. There is also bush poetry, yoga, and the very popular Emerging Artists competition and award. Totally Sound are proud sponsors of the second prize for this award, that sees the artist spend some time recording with James Newhouse from Real2Reel. This year this prize went to “Volatus”.

Australia Day 2019

Another great crowd made their way to central Bunbury for the annual Australia Day celebrations and Skyfest event. It all kicks of early with the ever popular BBQ Aussie Breakfast and the Runners Club Fun Run. This is followed by the Mayors Citizenship and Awards Ceremony, which is always lovely. With the formalities out of the way it is time for some fun and there is something for everyone. Live music, activities, great food, rides, Sideshow Alley all finishing up at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Shell for the Australia Day Concert and fire works.

This year the Totally Sound team had the pleasure of working with headliner Katy Steele, Laine Wolfe, Tracey Barnett, 2s a Crowd, Down Under and The Hunting Birds. All hosted by the charismatic Magnus Danger Magnus with special guest Famous Sharon working the crowd throughout the evening. Great to working alongside Jade and the events crew from the City of Bunbury, Lomax Media, Lonsdales, Onsite and the many organisations and community groups that make our local events special.

Christmas in the City 2018

The City of Bunbury Carols were absolutely delightful this year. The Totally Sound crew had the pleasure of working alongside Lomax Media, Kelsie Miller, Lonsdales Party Hire and of course Jade and the City of Bunbury Events Team.

The afternoon saw the the float parade worm its way through the crowd lined streets of Bunbury and then on to Bicentenial Square. The crowd then gathered at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Shell in anticipation of a night filled with carols and all things Christmas.

We got a bit creative (as we often do) at TS, and built some huge Christmas baubles to bring some sparkle to the stage. The lads flew the Flexarray system, created a really appropriate light show and used draping and a huge screen as a backdrop.

New Gear!

Well it rolled into the factory one day and went out to work the next. That is putting a piece of equipment straight to work!

It was pretty exciting to have our new Dicolour M48+ screen arrive. We’ve started out with 15 panels each .5m x 1m, black faced SMD (improved image in direct sunlight) that can be configured in many different ways. The screen is 4.8ml pitch and has a 170 degree viewing angle. It all tucks away beautifully in three custom build cases.

First gig for the new screen was the Margaret River Gourmet Escape main stage, and we were very happy with the result.

So much good food, good wine and good vibes on offer this year at the unique Margaret River Gourmet Escape. The Gourmet Village setting is just so spectacular at the lovely Leeuwin Estate. There are little satellite events all over the region, giving festival goes so many options for meeting the many famous chefs, experiencing food, wine and craft beers in special and interesting settings. It is a busy weekend for our team with the events spread over such a big area.
