Bunbury Turf Club’s 2015 South West Autumn Racing Carnival kicked off with Bayside Beats, featuring Jimmy Barnes and support act The Words. The event was held at the Bunbury Turf Club under a massive full moon on a beautiful March evening. It was a fantastic night and Jimmy had the crowd singing and dancing the night away.
On the front of the program for Nannup Music Festival it says ‘A weekend of discovery and everything awesome’. So true, if you have not been you should really put it on your list. The setting is so beautiful and it has such a lovely vibe. There is plenty to do, with seven stages of fantastic music, workshops, a long line of colourful markets, a dedicated kids area, an artwear parade, street shows and the Emerging Artist Award ceremony.
The whole crew from Totally Sound are involved in this event, and there is not much in the way of equipment left in the factory when the trucks role out down the hwy to Nannup. It is such an enjoyable gig. Great people, awesome talent. We caught up with old friends Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, who between them create a little magic, Kallidad were really popular, Timothy Nelson and the Infidels, The Pierce Brothers, Dan Sultan, Dilip n’ the Davs, Morgan Bain and The Swoop, Melody Pool and Ruby boots …..and so many more.
30 years is certainly something to celebrate! The Boyup Brook Country Music committee and township are to be congratulated for an outstanding success story in country music. People come from all over to be part of this event. Set on the banks of the beautiful Blackwood River the event includes a huge array of things to do and see. Of course there is the music itself, and this year Troy Cassar-Daley and Tania Kernaghan headlined an amazing line up of talent, including; The Magnificent 7, Connie Kis Anderson, Ray Kernaghan, Amber Joy Poulton, Tom Maxwell, Jonny Taylor and Fitzroy Express to name a few. Other attractions include the renowned Ute and Truck muster, a colourful affair that is a must see. There is also the Street Festival, the Art Awards, the Bush Poets Breakfast, Street Markets, the WA Country Music Awards and many workshops for enthusiasts to attend.
Totally Sound have been working along side the Boyup Brook Country Music Committee on this event for many years. It is a highlight on our calendar. We set up camp (glamping I think they call it) right on the river at the back of the stage and settle in for a great weekend. Congratulations to all involved, what a wonderful milestone.
To mark the 150th year of the Busselton Jetty, the Busselton Chamber of Commerce & Industries held an event on the end of the iconic jetty in Jan 2015. It was an amazing event to be part of. Guests were seated in a beautiful Marquee (Lonsdales) with stunning views through the clear side walls. There was a very interesting presentation on the history of the jetty, including a snapshot of early use and local characters that have been associated with the jetty over the years, and a discussion of the value it brings and the future local impact on business and tourism of the jetty. The crew had an interesting load in and out, as can be seen on the photo below…..it took a few trips!
Totally Sound are proud to have been associated with the Australia Day Celebrations for many years. It is always a fantastic event and attracts a huge crowd, and this year was no exception. The day kicks off with the Silver Chain Australia Day Breakfast. This is followed by a whole range of events including the Mayors Citizenship presentation and markets and activities in Bicentennial Square. This year there was also an awesome new Australia Day Youth Zone with live music and fashion parades. The day culminates in entertainment at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell and this year Skeleton Jump had the crowd up on their feet. Of course no Australia Day would be complete without the fireworks, which were as spectacular as ever.
Another wonderful weekend in Albany at the Wignall’s Vintage Blues Festival. It is a great festival held about 8km out of Albany in the beautiful grounds of the Wignall’s Winery. The festival runs over eight hours and is set on two main stages and encompasses food, wine and great music. This year the feature artists were The Stray Sisters and Ash Grunwald, but the talent did not end there, with lots of awesome music from Ruby Boots, Moondog J, Morgan Bain and Timothy Nelson. The Totally Sound team have been making the journey down to Wignall’s in early January for many years now, and we all love it. There is always competition among the team for a position on the Wignall’s crew list.

Summer is here and the crew are in full flight. Derek is busy in Hamilton New Zealand working as Technical Director on the Australian Dairy Science Symposium with Esther Price Promotions. All the rest of the crew have returned from the huge weekend that is the Blues at Bridgetown and are flat out preparing for the Margaret River Gourmet Escape.
Blues was absolutely awesome this year. Crowd numbers were up, the vibe was fantastic and we were priveledged to work with such an amazing group of artists. The organising committee and the community did a wonderful job of showcasing their town and putting on a great show. Totally Sound were busy on stages at Blue Owl’s Nest, Geegelup, The Festival Club, The Blues Challenge Stage, The Bridgetown Hotel and Scotts Tavern.
A sell-out crowd of around seven and a half thousand people gathered at Barnard Park on the beautiful Busselton foreshore for Oz Rock 2014. Starr Special Events and Down Under Events in conjuncton with the City of Busselton bought together aussie icons for the inaugural event. The line up included Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, James Reyne, Adam Brand and Daryl Braithwaite as well as some local artists.
The Margaret River Gourmet Escape combined the beautiful backdrop of Margaret River with many talented chefs, including Neil Perry, George Calombaris, David Chang, Matt MOran, Kylie Kwong,Rene Redzepi, the list goes on. Leeuwin Estate Winery hosted the Gourmet Village which saw 15 pop up restaurants, many exhibitions, chefs theatre, an interactive kitchen and even a Master Chef live kids cooking class. Voyager Estate with it’s magnificent rose arches hosted the Icon Dinner and there was a gourmet BBQ at Smiths Beach. There were also many satelite events throughout the region.
The Totally Sound team were there to provide the sound, lighting and AV production. Probably the most radio mics we have had go out on any one single event. Last count was 46 channels!
